Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made an unannounced visit to the United Arab Emirates on Sunday for talks with President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Israeli media reported.

Netanyahu flew to Abu Dhabi by private jet in the afternoon and returned to Israel the same evening, after about six hours of closed-door talks. A senior Israeli official later confirmed the visit to Reuters.

Israeli outlets said Iran dominated the agenda, and that the delegation included Mossad director Roman Gofman and National Security Council chief Shmuel Ben Ezra. Neither Netanyahu’s office nor the UAE foreign ministry gave a public readout of the meeting.

The visit was first reported by Channel 12 while Netanyahu was flying home. It comes a month before Israel’s October 27 election, and amid a row over reports that bin Zayed warned Netanyahu before the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack, a claim Netanyahu denies.
