Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will visit the US in late September for the G20 Trade Ministerial in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The two-day ministerial begins Sept 30. Goyal is expected to fly out late Monday, Sept 28, according to reports.

On the sidelines of the gathering, a bilateral meeting with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer is being worked out. Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal confirmed the meeting is likely but not yet formally scheduled. Trade pact issues are expected to figure in the talks.

Goyal recently said the first tranche of the India-US pact is ‘almost done and dusted.’ The final tariff arrangement is still pending. The ministerial is being held under the 2026 US G20 presidency.

Indian goods currently carry an extra 10 per cent US tariff under a Section 301 forced-labour action effective July 24, 2026, according to The Financial Economy. A separate Section 301 probe on manufacturing overcapacity is open. The Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act, signed Sept 18, gives Washington a 30-day window to target top buyers of Russian energy.

Goyal’s trip comes at a key moment for India-US trade ties. Watch for what comes out of the ministerial and the possible Greer meeting.
