India’s women’s hockey team ended the Asian Games pool stage in style. They beat Singapore 7-0 on Sunday, Sept 27, at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium. The win was their fifth straight victory, giving them top spot in Pool B with an unbeaten record.

Captain Salima Tete led the scoring. Sunelita Toppo hit a brace, while Lalremsiami, Rutuja Dadaso Pisal, Nikki Pradhan and Deepika also scored, according to reports.

India will now face South Korea in the women’s semi-final on Sept 30. China and Japan will contest the other semi-final. India finished the pool stage with a plus-63 goal difference.

Monday brings a busy day for India at the Games. Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh and Rahi Sarnobat compete in the women’s 25m pistol rapid qualification and team final from 6:10 AM IST, with the individual final at 10:45 AM IST, subject to qualification. The men’s hockey team, already through to the semi-finals, play Bangladesh at 3:30 PM IST. India also face Afghanistan in the men’s cricket T20 quarter-final at 10:00 AM IST.
