Newcastle United’s capture of Yoane Wissa on transfer deadline day closed one of the summer’s longest sagas — a chase that began with a 25-million-pound bid rejected by Brentford back in July, according to All Football App reports.

Wissa had left Brentford’s pre-season camp in Portugal to hold talks over his future, eager for Champions League football. Brentford were reluctant sellers after losing Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Norgaard and manager Thomas Frank that summer.

Newcastle kept coming back, and the saga was finally resolved in early September when Wissa sealed his move to St James’ Park for a fee in excess of 55 million pounds — 50 million plus 5 million in add-ons — as Alexander Isak joined Liverpool in a British record deal, per Football Insider 247 and TechnoSports.

The final fee was more than double the opening offer, underlining how Brentford drove a hard bargain for their striker.
