The White House has aired another taxpayer-funded television ad featuring President Donald Trump, warning of a “final battle”. In the ad, Trump walks down a hall saying “this is the final battle” and promises to “cast out the communists, Marxists, and fascists”, “throw off the sick political class” and “rout the fake news media”.

The ad aired during at least two Sunday NFL games on Fox, Commanders-Seahawks and Panthers-Browns, and ends with the line “Paid for by the US Government”. AdImpact data shows it is the third such government-funded ad captured in recent days.

Critics have alleged the ads misuse public funds just weeks before the midterm elections. Senator Maggie Hassan wrote to chief of staff Susie Wiles calling the ad propaganda that aids a political party, and bipartisan members of the Appropriations committees also objected. The White House insists the ads are “very clearly not campaign ads” and likens them to past public service announcements.

No legal finding has been made against the ads. The White House says it will continue running the spots, while critics are pressing for more scrutiny of the spending.
