India finished 10th at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, winning six silver medals and 20 Medals for Excellence. The competition concluded on September 27.

India fielded its largest-ever contingent — 70 competitors across 63 skills — against more than 1,400 young participants from around 70 countries. The six silvers came in bakery, dental prosthetics, digital interactive media design, industrial design technology, logistics and freight forwarding, and retail sales.

Smriti Nambiar, the silver medallist in bakery, was named India’s Best of Nation — the highest honour awarded to any single competitor at the event. The 20 Medals for Excellence recognised competitors who met international proficiency standards.

India improved from 13th place at WorldSkills Lyon 2024, where it won four bronze medals and 12 Medals for Excellence. The six-day event ran from September 22 to 27, with the closing ceremony in Shanghai. The result marks India’s best showing at the global skills contest.
