ECI Sets Oct 23 Polls for 28 Graduate, Teacher MLC Seats
The Election Commission of India has announced biennial elections for 28 Legislative Council seats across four states, with polling on October 23. The seats are in Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies in Bihar (8), Uttar Pradesh (11), Maharashtra (5) and Karnataka (4).
The formal notification will be issued on September 29. Nominations close on October 6, scrutiny takes place on October 7, and candidates can withdraw until October 9. Polling runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; votes will be counted on October 27 and the process completed by October 31.
In Bihar, four Graduate and four Teacher constituency members retire on November 16. These seats are elected by registered graduates and teachers — a narrower electorate than general assembly polls — through preferential ballots.
The Model Code of Conduct is in force in the concerned constituencies. The Commission also announced Rajya Sabha elections for 12 seats in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal, with voting on October 16.
