Yemen's Saudi-led coalition said early on Saturday that it had intercepted two ballistic missiles and two drones launched by the Iran-backed Houthis toward Saudi Arabia, Reuters reported. The coalition announced the interceptions in posts on X.

The coalition said the missiles were headed toward Khamis Mushait and the drones toward the capital, Riyadh. It added that it was monitoring the missile and drone threat but gave no further details.

Saudi civil defence sent alerts overnight for Khamis Mushait and Abha but not for Riyadh. The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, have been striking Saudi Arabia since declaring a naval blockade in July, with attacks on Saudi vessels in the Red Sea.

Hours earlier, the military chiefs of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey reviewed threats facing the kingdom in Riyadh. The three signed the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement last month, treating an armed attack on any of them as an attack on all.

The attacks add pressure on global oil supplies already strained by the US-Israeli war on Iran, with traffic through the Strait of Hormuz largely blocked.
