Ahmedabad has reported 496 dengue cases in the first 20 days of September, already exceeding August's total of 361 cases, according to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) health data. The city's cumulative dengue count for 2026 has reached 1,084, with nearly 46 per cent of cases coming in the first 20 days of September.

The surge has been blamed on intermittent rain spells in August and September, which left stagnant water ideal for mosquito breeding. The city also reported 70 malaria cases and seven chikungunya cases between September 1 and 20.

The AMC inspected 1,298 establishments across the city on September 22 and 23, detecting mosquito breeding at 146 premises and issuing 222 notices. The civic body collected Rs 6.06 lakh in administrative charges. CEPT University was among the premises penalised for mosquito breeding.

The West Zone recorded the highest number of violations. The AMC has urged residents to empty and dry out all water-storing containers at least once a week.
