President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says more than 10,000 Russian troops were killed or wounded over the past week as Ukrainian forces advanced in the Lyman sector of eastern Ukraine.

The claim, reported by the Kyiv Independent, covers Ukrainian military gains around Lyman in Donetsk Oblast. Independent military analysts have confirmed that Ukrainian forces eliminated a Russian salient north of Lyman that anchored Moscow’s plan to encircle Ukrainian defensive positions.

Ukraine’s 3rd Army Corps said its forces liberated 50 square kilometers in the second phase of Operation Vivaldi near Lyman, including the settlements of Shandryholove, Derylove and Drobysheve. Corps commander Andrii Biletskyi said 800 Russian personnel were eliminated in that phase alone.

The Institute for the Study of War reported that Ukrainian forces also cleared Rai-Oleksandrivka east of Slovyansk, using drones and unmanned ground vehicles to break through Russian lines.

Casualty figures in the war are disputed and cannot be independently verified. Russia does not publish its military losses. Ukraine’s General Staff publishes daily estimates of Russian casualties that Moscow dismisses.
