Nicki Minaj urged young Americans to vote Republican in the midterms during an interview with Lara Trump, even as questions linger about her own citizenship.

In a preview Fox News shared on September 25, Minaj told younger viewers their voices are needed. “This is your country, this is your world,” she said. “Please, and vote red.”

The message is complicated by Minaj’s own status. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, she said in a 2024 livestream that she was not a US citizen. In January she said she was finalizing citizenship paperwork after showing a Trump Gold Card. She has not publicly confirmed the process is complete.

Federal elections require voters to be citizens. The timing drew attention after the Supreme Court cleared the way for expanded citizenship checks through the federal SAVE database.

Minaj has grown closer to the Trump administration, appearing at a White House summit in January and serving as a celebrity judge for a Small Business Administration competition.
