Minnesota Holds Off Washington 27-24 in Big Ten Opener
The Minnesota Golden Gophers opened their Big Ten season with a 27-24 road win over the Washington Huskies on September 26 at Husky Stadium in Seattle.
Quarterback Drake Lindsey led the way. He completed 21 of 29 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns, all in the first half. Minnesota took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and went into halftime up 21-10.
Washington fought back in the second half. The Huskies cut the lead to 24-17 in the fourth quarter. But Minnesota’s defense held firm, recording seven sacks on the night.
Washington scored again with 1:53 left to make it 27-24. The Huskies could not recover the onside kick, and Minnesota ran out the clock.
It was Minnesota’s first road win since the 2024 season. The Gophers move to 1-0 in the Big Ten and host Michigan next Saturday. Washington took its first loss of the season.
The win kept Minnesota’s hopes of a strong conference finish alive.
