A Fort Lauderdale home was hit twice on Thursday when a second crane toppled onto the property while crews tried to remove the first one.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded around 9:15 a.m. on September 24 to a house in the 800 block of Southeast Eighth Street. A truck-mounted crane had overturned and leaned against the home, damaging part of the roof and a back wall. No one was hurt.

Crews then brought in another crane to lift the first one off the house. During that operation, the second crane also fell, sending both machines back onto the home. The second collapse was caught on video.

A hazardous materials team later responded to a diesel fuel leak at the scene. A fire inspector and a city building inspector were called to check the structure for further damage.

Fire Rescue spokesman Frank Guzman confirmed the double collapse. Officials have not said what caused either crane to fall. The home was reportedly under construction at the time. The extent of the damage and the timeline for removing the equipment were not immediately clear.
