Two Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards were seized by Macau Customs during a crackdown on cross-border smuggling, according to local media reports. The seizures were part of 12 cases between September 11 and 17. Customs said the confiscated goods were worth about 1.51 million Macau patacas, roughly $187,000. The haul included around 126,000 cigarettes, 75,000 electronic cigarettes, 359 headphones and about 47 kilograms of suspected silver granules — along with the two graphics cards. The standard RTX 5090 carries 32GB of GDDR7 memory on a 512-bit interface. Nvidia instead sells mainland China a restricted version, the RTX 5090 D V2, with 24GB of memory on a 384-bit bus. That gap makes imported cards attractive. Chinese AI firms reportedly buy RTX 5090s on the black market to run models like DeepSeek more cheaply than on restricted data-center chips. Retail prices for the card have climbed as high as $10,000 on some resale listings.
