IMD: rain in Delhi-UP, snow in hills as western disturbance hits

The India Meteorological Department has forecast rain in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh around October 10. A fresh western disturbance is moving over the northern plains.

The hills will see snowfall in higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Plains areas may get light to moderate rain with gusty winds. Thunderstorms with wind speeds of 50 to 60 kmph are likely in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The IMD has issued weather alerts across 18 to 28 states. Delhi may see isolated light rain and strong winds on Saturday, October 10. The rain is expected to bring down daytime temperatures slightly. Uttarakhand is on yellow alert, with snowfall possible above 4,200 metres. Delhi’s air quality index stood at 177 on Friday evening, in the moderate category. Delhi may see light rain that could bring down temperatures. Farmers in the wheat belt have been advised to protect harvested crops.

The disturbance is expected to move east after October 11. Day temperatures may dip by 2 to 4 degrees in the northwest. The weather office will issue updates as the system develops.
