ICE Agents Shoot Man In NYC Car With 5-Year-Old Inside

US immigration agents shot and wounded a man in his car with a 5-year-old child present in New York City’s Marble Hill neighbourhood on October 8, officials said. The man, identified as 28-year-old Oscar Belgal from the Dominican Republic, suffered a graze wound to the neck that was not life-threatening.
The child, believed to be his son, was unharmed. Mayor Zohran Mamdani said agents surrounded the car before firing multiple rounds. He said he spoke to President Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin to demand an end to ICE enforcement in the city, but the talks failed.
The Department of Homeland Security said officers were conducting a targeted operation to arrest a man with a prior criminal conviction. The department said officers rendered immediate aid. It was the first ICE shooting in New York City under the current enforcement push. The Department of Homeland Security said the man had a prior criminal conviction for grand larceny and multiple prior arrests.
Federal authorities have not explained what led up to the shooting. The man was taken into ICE custody from the hospital.
