Five Injured In Gas Pipeline Blaze At IIT Bombay Hostel

Five people, including two children, sustained injuries after a gas pipeline blaze erupted at a hostel on the IIT Bombay campus in Powai on Friday. The injured were hospitalised, according to initial reports.
The fire was triggered by a gas leak that turned into a sudden flare-up at the hostel. Emergency teams rushed to the scene, doused the flames and secured the area. The blaze was contained before it could spread to adjoining buildings.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about safety protocols within the campus premises. Authorities are examining how the leak occurred, whether maintenance lapses played a role, and what safeguards are in place for gas infrastructure in student housing.
No deaths were reported in the incident. The injured are receiving treatment, and their condition was not immediately known. Officials said a detailed assessment of the damage is underway, and further updates are expected as the inquiry progresses.
