Tommy Lee Jones, 80, Shines at ‘The Lowdown’ Premiere

Tommy Lee Jones made a rare red-carpet appearance on Wednesday, October 7, at the season two premiere of FX’s The Lowdown at the AFS Cinema in Austin, Texas.
The 80-year-old Oscar winner posed for photographs alongside co-stars Ethan Hawke and Ryan Kiera Armstrong, series creator Sterlin Harjo and rapper Killer Mike. It was one of his first public premieres in nearly three years, following the December 2023 premiere of Paramount’s Finestkind.
In the new season, Jones plays Lee Raybon Senior, the estranged father of Hawke’s citizen-journalist character Lee Raybon. The role marks his first regular television series part in decades, his last non-film TV performance being the 1989 miniseries Lonesome Dove.
The appearance comes nine months after the death of Jones’s 34-year-old daughter Victoria on January 1. The family had requested privacy at the time.
The Lowdown’s second season premieres October 14 on FX and Hulu. The neo-noir crime comedy follows Hawke’s self-styled truthstorian as he investigates corruption in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with Betty Gilpin joining the cast as a public defender.
