Trump pledges no Iran attack before US midterm elections

President Donald Trump said the US will not attack Iran before the midterm elections on November 3. He made the pledge on Truth Social on Thursday.
The post came after reports that the Pentagon had ordered US Central Command to prepare for possible major combat operations in Iran. Trump said productive talks with Iran were under way.
US officials said Trump has not made a final decision. Axios reported that potential strikes could target Iranian energy, infrastructure and nuclear sites. Sources said strikes could come before or after the elections.
Trump has repeatedly warned Iran of devastating consequences. At a Texas rally on Wednesday, he said Iran would face a horror show if it attacked American cities.
Crude prices fell after Trump’s post, with Brent dropping to about 103 dollars a barrel. Israel’s elections are set for October 27. US and Israeli officials are said to favour joint action if talks fail.
