Kenya reports first Ebola death after DRC traveller dies: explained

Kenya has confirmed its first Ebola case and death. A Kenyan man who had been living in the Democratic Republic of Congo for seven years died in Nairobi on Monday night.
The man had been ill for about a month before travelling. He went by road from eastern Congo to Kampala in Uganda. He then flew to Nairobi on October 3.
He passed airport screening on arrival but his condition worsened. Doctors isolated him after he showed fever, chills, severe weakness and bleeding under the skin. Lab tests confirmed the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola.
Health officials have identified 28 contacts, including family members and health workers. They are also tracing 23 passengers and four crew members from his flight. One contact has so far tested positive, officials said.
Health Minister Aden Duale urged the public not to panic. Kenya has stepped up border screening. The case is linked to the ongoing outbreak in the DRC, where WHO reported nearly 7,900 cases.
