Bokshi release pushed to December 4 after CBFC review

Prasanna Bisht-starrer Bokshi will now release on December 4, after the Central Board of Film Certification raised concerns over its depiction of witchcraft and gruesome violence.
The folk horror film was earlier scheduled to release in theatres on October 9. Directed by Bhargav Saikia, it premiered at the Rotterdam film festival and follows Anahita, a traumatised teenager who confronts ancient witchcraft during a school trip to the forests of Sikkim.
The multilingual film features Hindi, English and Nepali, along with Boksirit, a fictional language created for the film by Dutch linguist Jan van Steenbergen.
The cast includes Mansi Multani, Dagi Ngomdir and Siddharth Shaw. The film runs 2 hours 46 minutes.
The postponement pushes one of the season’s most talked-about indie releases out of the October window. The makers are expected to make the changes sought by the censor board before the December release. Saikia has built a reputation as one of Assam’s most distinctive indie voices, and the film’s Rotterdam premiere drew strong reviews.
