Western disturbances: why Delhi may get October rain

Two western disturbances are heading toward North India this week. They could bring light rain to Delhi and the surrounding region. Here is what these systems are.
Western disturbances are storm systems that travel from the Mediterranean region toward India. They ride the westerly winds in winter and bring rain and snow to the north. In October, they are weaker but can still change the weather.
This time, two systems will become active back to back between Tuesday and October 12. Their combined effect may trigger light showers over Delhi-NCR. Daytime temperatures could drop further as a result.
By mid-October, Delhi’s maximum temperature may settle between 31 and 32 degrees. Minimums could fall to 21 or 22 degrees. The shift will also help air quality, which worsens every winter.
Western disturbances are normal for this season. They mark Delhi’s slow transition from monsoon heat to winter chill. Farmers in the north watch these systems closely. The rain can help late crops but delay harvest. Weather offices will issue updates as the systems approach.
