Samsung Q3 Profit Soars 782% on AI Chip Boom

Samsung Electronics expects a record operating profit of 107.4 trillion won for the third quarter, the company said on October 8. That is about $80.17 billion, up 782 percent from a year ago.
The guidance beat the LSEG consensus estimate of 106.1 trillion won. It is Samsung’s fourth straight record quarter, powered by the global AI chip boom.
Revenue is expected at 195 trillion won, up 127 percent. A severe shortage of DRAM and high-bandwidth memory has sent chip prices soaring as data centres race to build AI capacity.
Analysts expect the memory shortage to last until 2028. Despite the blowout numbers, Samsung shares slipped 0.2 percent as investors booked profits.
Full third-quarter results will be released on October 29. The numbers confirm Samsung’s memory division is now the engine of the company’s profits.
The memory boom is reshaping the whole chip industry. With DRAM margins reportedly above 80 percent, making chips has become far more profitable than making the phones that use them.
