India, Canada Revive Security Dialogue on Terror

India and Canada held an NSA-level security dialogue in New Delhi from October 5 to 7. David Morrison, National Security Advisor to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, met India’s NSA Ajit Doval.

The two sides issued a joint statement agreeing to cooperate on transnational organised crime, terrorism, violent extremism, human and drug trafficking, cybercrime, extortion and extradition.

The dialogue builds on the Security Work Plan signed in February 2026. Economic ties are also back on track, with talks on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

A possible defence relationship was discussed, along with structured dialogues on cyber, economic and critical-mineral security.

The meeting signals a thaw in ties that had hit a low point in recent years. Both sides described the talks as constructive and forward-looking.

The dialogue also covered cooperation between intelligence agencies and faster responses to extradition requests. Officials said working groups will meet quarterly to track progress on the agreed agenda.
