India, Canada deepen security cooperation

India and Canada have agreed to deepen security cooperation. The move comes after years of strained ties between the two countries.
National Security Adviser Ajit Doval held talks in New Delhi from October 5 to 7. His Canadian counterpart was David Morrison, the senior adviser to Canada’s prime minister.
Both sides agreed to work together against terrorism, organized crime, cybercrime, trafficking, and extortion. They also discussed faster extradition.
The two countries will explore new structured dialogues on cyber and economic security. They also agreed to keep talking on trade. Talks for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement are on.
This was the third such dialogue in recent years. Earlier rounds were held in September 2025 and February 2026.
Canada’s government called the meeting a step to rebuild trust. India said security cooperation is key to the relationship.
The talks mark a slow thaw in ties that were badly hit over the Khalistan issue.
