WSJ: Guilfoyle sought $100,000 wire before ambassador hearing

The Wall Street Journal reported that Kimberly Guilfoyle, the US ambassador to Greece, asked a Trump donor to wire $100,000 to her American Express account before her Senate confirmation hearing. According to messages reviewed by the Journal, Guilfoyle messaged former Kentucky congressional candidate Eric Deters on the encrypted app Signal on July 3, 2025. Her hearing was set for July 9. She wrote: “It won’t show up anywhere if you wire money to American Express.” She added: “Honey please I need you to get this done for me today.” Deters never made the payment, telling Guilfoyle it would end his marriage. He had been seeking her help with tax and legal matters and had offered up to $1 million if she succeeded. Guilfoyle offered to press officials at the Justice Department and the IRS on his behalf. Guilfoyle’s lawyer, Jesse Binnall, disputed the authenticity of the messages. Democrats have asked for a State Department review. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, visiting Greece on Thursday, refused to comment on the report.
