Trump repeats ‘let them hit’ LA, San Diego missile remarks at rally

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday repeated his controversial suggestion that Iran could hit Los Angeles or San Diego with a missile. Speaking at a San Antonio rally, he said: “Let them hit a missile into San Diego or Los Angeles on the way. Let them hit.” The remarks echoed comments he made Monday in Nebraska, where he called it a small price to pay for keeping the world safe. On Wednesday he added that the US would not let such a scenario play out. “We protect our cities, we protect our country,” he said. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass reacted sharply on Fox 11. She said she did not understand why the president would make such a statement about his own cities. She said she had called lawmakers in Washington to push for a congressional investigation. The White House has said the original remarks were taken out of context. At the same rally, Trump also attacked Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico, claiming without evidence that he fell ill from eating meat for political reasons. The rally faced repeated interruptions from protesters.
