Nvidia, AMD chiefs join Tsinghua advisory board

Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang and AMD chief executive Lisa Su have joined the advisory board of Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management, the university announced on September 29.
The two chip leaders join Swiss banker Marc Pictet on the board, which has been chaired by Apple chief Tim Cook since 2019. Former Chinese vice-president Wang Qishan serves as honorary chair.
The move comes ahead of the board’s 27th annual meeting, scheduled for October 13-14 in Beijing. Five other successor members were also named, including the chief executives of BMW, Walmart, Coca-Cola, General Atlantic and bp.
The appointments are notable given the US-China tensions over semiconductors, with both Nvidia and AMD navigating export controls on advanced chips. Advisory roles at China’s top business school keep the executives plugged into the country’s policy and academic circles.
Tsinghua’s SEM advisory board is one of the most influential business school boards in Asia, drawing chief executives from the world’s largest companies.
