Anthropic launches Claude Haiku 5.5, its cheapest model yet

Anthropic has launched Claude Haiku 5.5. It is the third model in its Claude 5.5 series.

The launch came on 7 October. It followed Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5.

It arrives ahead of a planned IPO, Reuters reported.

The model is priced at $0.10 per million input tokens. Output tokens cost $0.50 per million for prompts under 100,000 tokens.

That makes it about 75 percent cheaper on average than the previous Haiku model.

It comes with a 1-million-token context window. That is up from 200,000 on Haiku 4.5.

It is the first Haiku model with an adjustable effort setting. Users can trade cost against intelligence for each task.

Haiku models are designed for speed and low cost. They suit customer support, coding assistance and other high-volume uses.

The launch strengthens Anthropic's push into cheaper AI models. Competition in the space is growing.

The adjustable effort setting lets developers pick speed or depth for each query. This can cut costs for simple, repeated tasks.

Anthropic is among the leading AI labs racing to cut model costs. Industry watchers say pricing will be a key battleground as AI adoption grows.
