Vance: Iran must make ‘meaningful’ cut in enrichment to end war

US Vice President JD Vance has said Iran must make a meaningful reduction in uranium enrichment capacity to end the seven-month US-Iran war.
He spoke to Reuters in an exclusive interview in Fairbanks, Alaska, on 6 October.
Vance questioned why Iran needs fuel enriched to 60 percent. "If you don't want a nuclear weapon, then why do you need 60% enriched fuel?" he said.
He called it a very basic threshold issue.
He wants real capacity cuts, not promises of future drawdowns. "We're not going to trade words for actions," he said.
Vance has been leading the US settlement efforts. A provisional peace agreement in June fell apart quickly.
Iran and the US have exchanged proposals in recent weeks. The talks cover ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
President Trump rejected Tehran's latest offer. He warned that military operations could intensify after the November midterm elections.
Washington is unsure how decisions are made in Tehran.
A senior Iranian official told Reuters the US demands were at odds with Tehran's demands.
