Bengaluru 2BHK at Rs 70,000 rent sparks online debate

A Reddit user’s account of Bengaluru’s rental market has sparked a heated online debate.
The user said a landlord quoted nearly Rs 70,000 a month for a 2BHK apartment, plus a deposit of around Rs 3 to 4 lakh. The flat was within walking distance of the user’s office.
The apartment was advertised as fully furnished. But the user said it had only one bed, two sofas and a small television. There was no fridge, no washing machine and no dining table.
The user also claimed the landlord wanted an annual rent increase of 7 to 8 percent. The user offered Rs 65,000 with a three-month deposit, but the offer was rejected.
The post drew hundreds of reactions. Some users blamed tenants for accepting high rents. Others said demand from professionals moving to the city keeps prices up.
Bengaluru has long faced criticism over costly housing and traffic. The debate shows no sign of cooling down.
