Rays sweep Yankees out of ALDS with 4-3 win

The Tampa Bay Rays completed a three-game sweep of the New York Yankees with a 4-3 win in Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Wednesday night.
Rookie Victor Mesa Jr. delivered the decisive blow. He hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the sixth inning for his first career postseason home run.
The Yankees were hurt by a fan-interference call in the bottom of the sixth. Anthony Volpe hit what looked like a tying two-run homer, but a spectator reached over the left-field fence. After review, the call was overturned to a double.
New York starter Max Fried allowed four earned runs on seven hits and struck out seven. For the Yankees, Ben Rice and Spencer Jones drove in runs.
The Yankees were swept in a division series for the first time in team history. They scored only five runs across the three games. Star Aaron Judge missed the series with a calf strain.
The Rays reach the AL Championship Series for the third time in club history. They will host the winner of the White Sox-Guardians series in a best-of-seven starting Monday.
