NLC India starts first sale of M-Sand from Neyveli mines

NLC India has begun its first-ever sale of manufactured sand from its Neyveli mines. The M-Sand is made from overburden soil, the waste earth dug out during mining.
The move turns mining waste into a useful product. Manufactured sand is used in construction as an alternative to river sand. It also reduces the need to dump overburden at mine sites.
The sale began this week, according to the company’s update. NLC India operates large lignite mines at Neyveli in Tamil Nadu. Overburden removal is a routine part of open-cast mining.
Construction-grade sand is in high demand across India. River sand mining faces strict limits in many states. M-Sand offers a cheaper and legal alternative for builders.
The company could earn fresh revenue from what was once waste. The sale also cuts the cost of managing overburden dumps. Other mining companies may follow the same model. Watch for sales volumes in the next quarterly results.
