4,500 Greater Noida farmers to get 64.7% extra land compensation

About 4,500 farmers in Greater Noida will receive 64.7 per cent additional compensation for their acquired land. The total relief amounts to more than Rs 500 crore, according to reports.
The path for the payout was cleared on October 6. It comes after months of protests by farmers demanding their rights. Farmers have long sought the extra compensation along with plots in developed areas.
The demand gained force last December when nearly 1,000 farmers from six districts joined a mahapanchayat at the Yamuna Expressway zero point. Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait led the gathering. The farmers asked for 64.7 per cent extra compensation and 10 per cent developed plots.
Separately, the region is preparing for more land acquisition. New Noida will cover 80 villages across Dadri and Bulandshahr. Village camps for the process are set to start this month. The first phase covers 3,165 hectares and should finish by 2027.
The payouts could ease farmer anger in the region. Watch for the official payment schedule next.
