INDIA bloc march over CEC resignation stopped, 50 MPs detained

Police detained around 250 people on Wednesday as INDIA bloc leaders marched to the Election Commission headquarters demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
About 50 MPs were among those detained, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The march was stopped at Jantar Mantar in central Delhi, where heavy police deployment had been arranged.
The opposition has been protesting the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and the controversy around the modified Form 6. The Congress and its allies say the revision exercise risks removing genuine voters ahead of the Bihar assembly polls.
The Congress youth wing has announced a separate protest on October 10 to keep up the pressure on the poll body. Party workers say the agitation will continue until the Commission addresses their demands.
The Election Commission has maintained that the revision was carried out with the full Commission's approval and was upheld by the Supreme Court in May this year.
