Apple opens App Store to iPhone Duo optimised apps

Apple has opened the App Store to apps optimised for the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, ahead of the device's October 23 launch.
In a notice to developers, Apple said optimised apps and games can now be submitted through App Store Connect. Rebuilding an existing app with Xcode 27.1 adds support for the Duo, and a Device Hub tool shows how apps behave in every posture and orientation of the foldable.
Apps that are not updated will still run on the Duo but will not fill the inner display. According to MacRumors, only apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later will use the full screen; all others will appear with black borders.
To push developers along, Apple has set a deadline: from April 2027, all app and game submissions must include screenshots for the iPhone Duo. The company is also running workshops around the world to help developers optimise their apps for the new format.
