BJP calls Rahul Gandhi’s ECI protest ‘theatrics on street’

The BJP on Tuesday dismissed the INDIA bloc's protest march against the Election Commission as "theatrics on the street" and called the "vote-chori" charge baseless.
Party spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was trying to create anarchy with unproven allegations instead of working to win elections. He called Gandhi a "kaamchor" (slacker) and asked how often he had campaigned in poll-bound states.
Earlier, Gandhi had accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and CEC Gyanesh Kumar of "treason" over alleged vote theft. He led more than 300 opposition MPs in a march from Parliament toward the ECI office.
Police stopped the march about 50 yards from the commission's office. Gandhi, his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other leaders then staged a dharna inside Akashvani Bhawan. They were detained for nearly two hours.
The Election Commission said it received a meeting request late on Tuesday but the proposed venue did not follow protocol. The opposition claims the poll body is deleting voter names to help the BJP, a charge the ECI denies.
