INDIA Bloc Marches in Delhi, Demands Poll Chief Quit Over Voter Rolls

Opposition MPs marched through central Delhi this week demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protest targeted the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls, which the opposition says is deleting genuine voters.
On October 6, lawmakers from the INDIA bloc walked from Parliament toward the Election Commission office. Police stopped them near Akashvani Bhawan. The MPs then staged a sit-in inside the premises that lasted eight to nine hours. Around 260 people were detained in the evening and released after about two hours.
On October 7, Delhi Police registered an FIR against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and their supporters. The case says they entered Akashvani Bhawan without permission during the march. Later that day, several opposition MPs were detained again while heading to a protest at Jantar Mantar.
Rahul Gandhi accused the government and the poll chief of damaging democracy. He said every FIR against him was “a medal.” The Election Commission said it had received no formal meeting request from the opposition MPs.
