India, Switzerland deepen science and tech partnership

India and Switzerland are taking their science ties to a new level. Union Minister Jitendra Singh met Swiss President Guy Parmelin in New Delhi on October 6.
The two sides agreed to build a long-term, structured partnership in science, technology, research and innovation. They welcomed progress on the Indo-Swiss Research Framework and a joint scientific board.
The meeting followed a busy October 5. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Parmelin held talks at Hyderabad House. Five agreements were signed.
These include a young professionals exchange for 300 people a year, a transport technology partnership, and a research pact between India’s Department of Science and Technology and the Swiss National Science Foundation.
President Droupadi Murmu also met Parmelin at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Both sides said closer cooperation in science, clean energy and innovation benefits their people.
Parmelin is on a three-day state visit. He will also attend the Prosperity Summit marking one year of the India-EFTA trade pact.
