Jaguar has revealed the Type 01, the electric grand tourer that signals the brand’s transformation into an ultra-luxury EV maker. Here is what the car is and why Jaguar is betting its future on it.

The Type 01 is the first car on Jaguar Electric Architecture, a dedicated EV platform. It uses three motors producing around 1,000 PS. A 118 kWh battery targets up to 450 miles of range. An 800-volt system allows 350 kW fast charging, adding over 200 miles in 15 minutes.

The car matters because Jaguar has staked its survival on going upmarket. The brand has stopped building volume models and will roughly double its prices. It aims to sell about 60,000 cars a year at high margins instead of chasing sales figures.

Orders open in early 2027, with first deliveries in the second half of the year. Expected pricing starts around 130,000 pounds. The Type 01 was unveiled in New York on October 6 and makes its public debut on October 8. More models on the same platform are expected to follow.
