HC seeks reply in Salman Khan’s Kala Hiran suit; next hearing Dec 16

The Delhi High Court has sought a reply in Salman Khan’s suit over the film Kala Hiran. The matter was listed for further hearing on December 16.
The film has been linked by the parties to the 1998 blackbuck case. Khan has objected to the proposed film and its promotional material.
His counsel argued that certain aspects could make him identifiable. They said these relate to incidents associated with his life.
The producer’s counsel submitted that the movie is not yet ready for release. It would need certification before any theatrical release.
The court also took note of the possibility of an OTT release. Khan has raised objections to that as well. The producer has opposed the relief sought.
The blackbuck case dates back to 1998 during the shooting of Hum Saath Saath Hain. Salman was convicted in 2018 and is out on bail. The Kala Hiran project has been controversial since its announcement. The producer has defended the film as a work of fiction. Personality rights for public figures remain a grey area in Indian law. The December 16 hearing will be closely watched.
