NCR industries face Oct 31 fuel-camera deadline

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has ordered all industrial units in the National Capital Region to install Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras by October 31.The cameras must cover all fuel storage areas and fuel-charging points. Units using gas-based fuel must keep the camera angled to capture the gas gauge or meter clearly. Industries must also provide dedicated power backup and stable internet for the systems. The video feeds will stream in real time to the servers of the Central Pollution Control Board and the state pollution boards or the Delhi Pollution Control Committee. The move targets the use of unapproved fuels. The commission's flying squads found such violations during recent incognito inspections. The cameras will let authorities check that industries use only approved fuels. This adds to existing rules like the Online Continuous Emission Monitoring System (OCEMS) that the CPCB already requires for industrial units. The deadline is part of the NCR's winter-pollution push. From October 1, a separate rule already denies fuel to vehicles without a valid Pollution Under Control certificate.
