Why AI evaluation matters: the trust gap holding back adoption

As artificial intelligence spreads beyond technical teams, a crucial question follows: how do we know the AI works as intended? Evaluation, the science of testing AI before and after launch, has become the industry's biggest bottleneck. The problem is scale. Gartner projects that by the end of 2026, 80 per cent of low-code platform users will come from outside IT. A KPMG survey found 52 per cent of 2,170 companies plan to rely on non-technical citizen developers. When everyone can build AI, everyone needs a way to test it.There is also a trust gap. TM Forum research found that while 72 per cent of telecom providers believe their AI is trustworthy, only 14 per cent can prove it. AI systems can produce wrong, rude or off-brand outputs, give advice they were never meant to give, or drift after launch. The industry is responding. LuminosAI opened a free no-code evaluation platform this week: builders describe their AI in plain language and get custom tests automatically. TM Forum and Accenture launched the telecom industry's first AI trust certification. The message is the same: rigorous testing, not just faster building, will decide who succeeds with AI.
