Jio Platforms IPO: what makes it India’s biggest

Jio Platforms plans to launch its IPO on October 21 and list on October 28, in what would be India's biggest public offering. Here is what makes it historic. The issue is expected to raise about $3.8 billion at an enterprise valuation of $143-146 billion, or more than Rs 12 lakh crore. That would surpass Hyundai Motor India's $2.9 billion listing in 2024, the current record. The draft prospectus proposes issuing up to 27 crore fresh shares, about 2.9 per cent of post-issue equity. Jio Platforms houses Reliance's digital businesses: Reliance Jio has 506 million mobile customers and 157.9 million fixed-line customers, with 26.85 crore 5G users as of June 2026. It is the first Reliance group IPO since 2008 and its first consumer-focused listing. SEBI issued final observations on August 28. Proceeds will largely repay debt of the telecom division. The anchor book opens around October 19, after overseas roadshows in the US, UK, Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore.
