The Nifty 50 gained 220.35 points, or 0.98 per cent, to settle at 22,776.10, reclaiming the 22,700 level. It was the second straight day of gains after recent volatility. Buying was broad-based: 32 of 38 sectors advanced. Media and entertainment stocks surged over 6.5 per cent, while small-cap indices outperformed large caps. Top gainers included Trent, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Hindustan Unilever and Reliance Industries. IT stocks lagged, with the Nifty IT index slipping 0.59 per cent, and Tech Mahindra, Infosys and TCS among the top drags. The rally comes ahead of the RBI's October policy decision, with markets watching for signals on interest rates.
