Mamardashvili’s late penalty save earns Georgia draw in Belfast

Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili saved a late penalty as his side held Northern Ireland to a 0-0 draw at Windsor Park on Monday night. The result keeps Northern Ireland top of their Nations League group.
Mamardashvili dived to his right to keep out Isaac Price’s 84th-minute spot kick. The penalty was awarded after Ruairi McConville was fouled during a goalmouth scramble. The 26-year-old Liverpool keeper made five saves in total.
Northern Ireland dominated the shots but could not score. The draw was their fourth straight clean sheet, a run stretching back to 2017. They lead Group B2 by a single point from Hungary.
Georgia are still waiting for their first goal of this Nations League campaign. They sacked coach Willy Sagnol after losing the reverse fixture in Tbilisi, and interim boss Ramaz Svanadze is yet to win.
The result keeps Northern Ireland on course for a historic promotion to League A. Georgia take a valuable point from a tough away trip to Belfast.
