Newsom calls Trump ‘deranged and dangerous’ over Iran-LA remarks

California Governor Gavin Newsom has called President Donald Trump “deranged and dangerous” after the president appeared to joke that Iran could “take out” Los Angeles or San Diego.
At a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska on Monday, Trump said: “They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay.” He was speaking about the economic costs of the war in Iran.
“After sending the National Guard and Marines to occupy California, Donald Trump is now saying our foreign enemies should ‘take out’ Los Angeles and San Diego,” Newsom wrote on X. “He is deranged and dangerous.”
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria also condemned the remarks. The rally came about a month before midterm elections that could return Democrats to control of Congress.
Newsom’s press office said the president was advocating an attack on over 10 million residents. The remarks came at a pre-midterm rally. Trump has downplayed concerns about attacks on US soil before.
