150 Bangladeshi nationals deported from J&K; another batch due Oct 7

Jammu and Kashmir authorities on Monday deported 150 Bangladeshi nationals allegedly staying illegally in the Union Territory, officials said. Another batch of 150 is scheduled for deportation on October 7.
The group was flown from Srinagar to Bagdogra in West Bengal on a special Indian Air Force aircraft and handed over to the Border Security Force for repatriation to Bangladesh.
Officials said the individuals were identified after discrepancies in their Aadhaar details during a registration exercise. Their details were shared with Bangladeshi authorities, which confirmed their nationality, and action was taken under the Foreigners Act.
The 150 are among around 500 individuals detained during a recent police survey across the Union Territory. The detained group also includes Rohingya from Myanmar, who are to be deported in later batches.
Officials said about 500 people were detained in the recent survey. Most had lived in Kashmir for years and worked in menial jobs. Action was taken under the Foreigners Act.
