Sourav Ganguly named Delhi Capitals head coach for 2027 IPL
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been appointed head coach of Delhi Capitals for the 2027 IPL season, the franchise announced on Tuesday. He takes over from Hemang Badani, who led Delhi to a sixth-place finish in the 2026 edition.
Ganguly, 54, played 113 Tests and 311 one-day internationals for India. He made his coaching debut last year with Delhi’s sister franchise Pretoria Capitals in South Africa’s SA20 league.
He has a long association with the franchise. Ganguly joined Delhi as an advisor in 2019 and served as the team’s director of cricket in 2023-24.
“Delhi Capitals is a franchise very close to my heart,” Ganguly said in a statement. “I am looking forward to working with the squad, the new season, and building a strong and fearless team.” Yuvraj Singh is expected to join the backroom as batting coach, though the franchise has not confirmed it yet.
Delhi have never won the IPL title. The franchise will hope the former India captain can end that long wait when JSW takes over operational control for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.
