Drug maker Lupin on Tuesday launched Formoflo-G MDI in India, which the company describes as the world’s first fixed-dose triple-combination metered-dose inhaler for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The launch follows approval from the Drug Controller General of India.
The inhaler combines Glycopyrronium Bromide, Formoterol Fumarate and Fluticasone Propionate in a single formulation for the long-term management of moderate to severe COPD. It is available as a twice-daily, single-strength fixed dose, PTI reported.
According to the company, the therapy aims to serve more than 55 million people living with COPD in India, where the condition remains a leading cause of death and disability. Lupin Managing Director Nilesh Gupta said access to effective therapies remains critical as respiratory diseases affect millions. Rajeev Sibal, President of India Region Formulations at Lupin, said the product marks an important addition to the company’s respiratory portfolio.
Lupin shares rose 0.21 per cent to about Rs 2,015 on Tuesday, HDFC Sky reported. Citing IQVIA data, Lupin said it is currently ranked second in India’s respiratory therapy segment. The product brings three established therapies together in a single inhaler for long-term COPD management.
